Resource gathering is the fundamental principle to surviving in the Rust universe. After hopping inside a server, players must quickly build their base and craft all the necessary weapon items to fend off enemies. Sometimes, players or their teammates gather excessive resources more than what is required for their survival, and most of these resources can go to waste if not stored properly.
But thanks to the vending machines, players can now trade any excessive resources for any item with other players on the map. This method of trading is highly secure and indirect, avoiding unnecessary duels with enemies. It not only allows players to sell items but also helps to buy valuable resources from others safely. The Vending Machine can be set up by players, bandits, and even scientists.
How to craft a Vending Machine in Rust
The vending machine is one of the most useful deployable items on the crafting menu. A vending machine can be easily crafted using 50 high-quality materials and 3 gear parts and will be ready to deploy in 30 seconds(Crafting Duration). The Blueprint for vending machines is available by default in the crafting menu.
How to place a Vending Machine in Rust
The rust vending machine can be placed anywhere on the map with a foundation beneath it. The ideal spot for placing a vending machine should be just outside your main base. Though being extremely durable they are still vulnerable to attacks by raiders and must be carefully placed to prevent it. Vending machines have two entry points Sellers Point and Buyers point. The Buyers point must be placed outside just like an entry door while protecting the sellers’ section with a code lock(100 metal fragments) and armored walls.
If you are a raider and find a poorly positioned vending machine in open you are bound to have a lucky day as you can easily destroy and get the items for free. The Vending machine is only expected to drop all items if it’s left unlocked you will only be able to retrieve partial items after destroying them. The following are the amount of throwables/gre required to take down a vending machine.
C4- 1 , Rockets-3 , Satchel Charges-4 and Pick axe-1,000

When a player deploys a vending machine it can be easily found if it is made traceable by the owner. Players can open their map by pressing “M” and locate all the Vending machines by the shopping cart symbol available on the current server. The red-colored are empty vending machines and the green ones have resources for sale. Along with the locations, players can also see the resource stock present in a particular machine by hovering over it.

Using drones for trading
If you are one of those lazy people who sulk at the concept of traveling don’t worry the latest update from Rust allows Drones to travel and trade on behalf of you. first & foremost you need to find a suitable Drone outpost near your location using the map. After Reaching the outpost you can use any one of the available computers to look out for Vending Machines on the map and order the required items from it.
Once ordered, the outpost will deploy drones and collect the items from the far-off rust vending machine on your behalf. You must pay 20 scrap materials as a delivery charge for the drones. The best part of using drones is that they are completely invulnerable to attacks from enemies and only takes a maximum of 5 minutes for any long-haul delivery
